In advance of the 2nd United Nations High-level Meeting (UNHLM) on Tuberculosis (TB) in September 2023 in New York City, the Stop TB Partnership, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, Korea International Cooperation Agency’s Global Disease Eradication Fund, and the Stop TB Partnership’s Private Sector Constituency are pleased to invite you to TB Innovation Summit (TBIS) 3.0.
TBIS 3.0 will be a unique gathering as it will move beyond the traditional, one-dimensional global health event to take inspiration from the tech world (South by Southwest, TechCrunch Disrupt, etc.) and will feature a mixed-method approach to go beyond the usual talking points. The summit will include keynote addresses, fireside chats (tête-à-têtes), TED Talk-style sessions, experiential zones (discovery zones/innovation showcases, networking zones, etc.), director’s and start-up studios (pitch sessions), etc. across the afternoon.
TBIS 3.0 will bring together leaders in the TB and global health space, as well as energize current and new stakeholders and partners, including new champions, donors, funders, and innovators. The summit will:
Celebrate current and future TB innovations and the advances made by the TB community-at-large
Highlight the need for new and additional funding / investment for current and future TB innovations
Bring the best minds together to accelerate the roll-out of current and future TB innovation
Unite and strengthen the growing and thriving TB innovation ecosystem
With just seven (7) years left to achieve our goal of ending TB by 2030, TBIS 3.0 attendees and participants, across constituencies and sectors, will convene to DisrupTB to End TB!
Dr. Lucica Ditiu is a Romanian physician and public health expert who has acted as the Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership since May 2011. Under her leadership, the organization has acquired a clear identity as one of the most influential advocates of universal health coverage and a world without TB.
Dr. Ditiu has devoted her career to supporting people affected by TB, especially those who are the most vulnerable, stigmatized and living in impoverished communities. A specialist in lung diseases, she began practicing medicine in 1992 in Romania. She commenced her global humanitarian career with the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 2000 as a Medical Officer for TB in Albania, Kosovo and FYR Macedonia within the Disaster and Preparedness Unit. She has worked since then in the WHO and UN system at every level – national, subregional, regional, and global.
Dr. Ditiu eschews inflexible rules, hierarchy, and formal meetings. Under her watch, the Stop TB Partnership has evolved into a lean, accountable, innovative, and progressive operation that continuously challenges the status quo.
Dr. Ditiu is relentless in pushing for the inclusion of all people affected by TB in the programs and activities of the Stop TB Partnership. Her motto stems from the lyrics of a Romanian band: “The day you give up is the day you die.” To date, she has not given up on her quest to end TB in her lifetime.cqueline Huh
Jacqueline Huh is the Head of External Affairs and Strategic Initiatives at the Stop TB Partnership.
After working in the private sector for over 10 years, Jackie decided to change everything in her life except for her family and friends, and dedicate herself to something more challenging and impactful. Due to a chronic, life-long health condition that affects her and early experiences in South Africa, she is committed and passionate about healthcare delivery and innovation.
“I was lucky enough to realize when I was fairly young that the reasons for who I am and live the life I do are due to circumstances that were based on pure chance and not necessarily on merit,” she says. “Knowing this, it is hard not to feel that it is society’s collective and ethical responsibility, including mine, to do everything we can to ensure that all people have access to affordable, quality, and people-centred care so that they can have the life they want and deserve.”
